CASCADE THERMAL HISTORY

The Cascade Thermal brand was introduced in 2018 as the culmination of experts and resources from three previously independent, and well-known and respected in situ thermal remediation technology companies: Current Environmental Solutions (CES), TerraTherm, Inc., and Global Remedial Solutions (GRS).

All in situ thermal remediation technologies, including thermal conductive heating, electrical resistance heating, and steam enhanced extraction, have roots in the enhanced oil recovery industry.

Read below to learn more about the histories of each of these companies:

TerraTherm, Inc.

The opportunity to form TerraTherm as we know it today came in 2000 when a division of Royal Dutch Shell donated a cutting-edge technology to the University of Texas at Austin, which in turn licensed it to TerraTherm’s co-founders, thus making the launch of TerraTherm possible. Since that time, TerraTherm has broadened its capabilities, developed and patented new methods, added numerous partners, proven the applicability of thermal remediation, and completed numerous successful projects worldwide.

Current Environmental Solutions (CES)

CES was founded in 1997 by the Battelle Memorial Institute (BMI) and Terra Vac as the first private company to commercialize Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH), a form of ISTR. BMI operates the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) for the Department of Energy (DOE). All research and development information and associated patents were transferred from BMI to the staff at CES. CES remains the most experienced ERH vendor in the world and has maintained fundamental engineering principles and practices developed through extensive laboratory and field testing. This unique technical know-how has allowed CES to build an unprecedented and unparalleled track record of successes in the ERH field.

Global Remedial Solutions (GRS)

GRS was one of a limited number of ISTR providers in North America specializing in Electrical Resistance Heating (ERH) technology. The experienced team of engineers, project managers and field technicians have been designing, installing and operating effective remediation solutions targeting the most challenging site conditions and recalcitrant contaminants for decades.
