Project Highlight: Building a Barrier, Protecting Offsite Wells from Contaminant Migration

Environmental Remediation

Managing groundwater contamination at a massive, multi-operable unit site is a high-stakes challenge—especially when offsite wells are at risk. At the former Nebraska Ordinance Plant, Cascade was contracted to install a permeable reactive barrier (PRB) using emulsified vegetable oil (EVO) to intercept migrating TCE and RDX. The goal: create a deep subsurface treatment zone across a wide footprint using direct push technology (DPT).

The site’s remote location and required injection depths of up to 130 feet called for creative problem-solving, strategic logistics, and highly capable tooling.

  • Deep Injection Capability: Cascade deployed an 8040 Geoprobe rig to reach target depths and ensure precise amendment delivery through silty, complex lithology.

  • Remote Site Logistics: Coordinated the movement of large amendment volumes using two dedicated lull loaders to streamline offsite staging and on-site delivery.
